The idea to start this foundation really should begin with “Once upon a time” but the story is true. It comes from the family history of band members Sammy and Tyler Duis. Their great-grandfather, who was one of five brothers, grew up in a poor family that immigrated to the United States from Ireland. The family had little money for food, much less for education or entertainment. It was very tough to make a living back in those days until one evening the family heard a knock at the door. On the porch lay five instruments. They were left as an anonymous gift. Each of the five brothers chose an instrument that day and taught themselves to play. As time went on they began to perform as street musicians, eventually making quite the name for themselves around town. Through hard work and dedication, they built a following and made this musical journey a family business. Little by little, they made enough money to put food on the table and provide for the family. Today, the legacy lives on through the Duis brothers and their band MELODIME.
This foundation was established to continue this story – to give gifts and help others overcome hardships; learn not to be a victim of circumstance; and to leverage their passion of music for the better. The goal through this foundation is to have these individuals look back at the obstacles they've overcome and say “Now I Play Along Too.”
